Worlds largest human clitoris image
Relationships August 13, The clitoris is probably the most misunderstood piece of human anatomy in existence. Turns out, there are centuries of mystery and obscurity surrounding the clitoris. Historical sexism and fear of female pleasure played a huge role in this. Wednesday Martin delves into the medical and social history of the clitoris.
The Largest Clitoris in the World
The human clitoris is an object of beauty, pleasure and intrigue
The clitoris is a female sexual organ in mammals - that is common knowledge by now. However, have you ever wondered why do mammalian females have one in the first place? Well, at the beginning of its development, the embryo has no gender. As it prepares to develop into either of the two genders, it forms bud tissues that will later generate either a penis or milk glands. After the first stage of its development is over, the embryo starts generating sex hormones according to its chromosome information of what it's going to be, male or female. Male hormones trigger the development of the penis, but female hormones stop the development of the penis bud, which thus remains a vestigial clitoris. As a side note, this is also why males also have nipples.
A Clitoral History of Time
It seems remarkable to me that well into the 21st century we still have so much to learn about many parts of the human body. Top of the list of the most misunderstood of organs must surely be the clitoris, a structure whose function seems to be entirely about providing sexual pleasure to its bearer. Incredibly, the structure of the clitoris was hotly debated by anatomists until just a decade ago, when it was found that the organ was a lot more complicated than had been thought.
In humans, the visible portion - the glans - is at the front junction of the labia minora inner lips , above the opening of the urethra. Unlike the penis , the male homologue equivalent to the clitoris, it usually does not contain the distal portion or opening of the urethra and is therefore not used for urination. The clitoris also usually lacks a reproductive function.
