Previous Entries. DAC proved to be fundamentally different for them as they rose above the competition to achieve overall 4th. The team proved an unexpected challenge for VP at their peak in Boston despite having two standins, far exceeding expectations.
We can only imagine what they will bring to the table with a full roster in Kiev and thus we are convinced that they rightly belong here among the Top 8 in a dastardly format.
Nonetheless, the team will likely become a Chinese staple in international tournaments and may yet again be the dark horse in this tournament.
Despite lacklustre results at Boston amidst an arguably disagreeable bracket format, the team have continued looking strong at the forefront of CIS Dota.
They have good teamwork and appear to bond well along with a strict captain and drafter in Solo. Hence, we believe that VP, who have had little to show on the international stage in recent months, belong here among the top teams at the tournament, particularly when we take into account their home crowd advantage.
Remarkably consistent, EG keep true to their reputation of always being a title contender regardless of which tournament they are competing in.
Recovering from a lackluster group stage performance, EG were only bested in a closely contested Lower Bracket series against Newbee.
Not at all a result to be ashamed of. EG has always been synonymous to a claim on the top 4 of any given tournament, as even with their hiccup in Shanghai there is little to suggest that we have seen the last of this star-studded lineup.
Is the LiquidDota staff on drugs again? Yes, yes… but… while we heavily debated the issue, in the end we settled on the third place for several reasons: Hot streaks during a tournament are one thing, but expecting them to just keep going seems unrealistic.
While they did win the Starladder i-league Invitational qualifier, their run has not been flawless. During the playoffs of the Dota 2 Professional League they were eliminated by Newbee, and while that in itself is not a huge tragedy, it also offers no consolation for aforementioned doubts about iG's consistency.
With all that out of the way, we decided on 3rd place, acknowledging that, while iG did look incredibly strong during DAC, the interregional experience and consistency of our Top2 are still something iG have to catch up to.
ShiaoPi 2 nd Newbee With iG in 3rd place, that leaves us with two remaining teams that showcase the most consistency and strength and taking a strong second place is Newbee.
Despite a stumble during the Boston Major, everything about this team is rock solid. While they have participated in far fewer tournaments than a team like Newbee, their results are equally as impressive.
After making post-TI pickups of Ana and Jerax, they took home first place at the Boston Major, an astonishing 3rd Major win — and they looked nigh unstoppable in doing so.
While they looked a bit rusty during the DAC final, we all know how OG tend to fare when it comes to their performance at Dota Majors and their ability to step up when it matters most during long tournaments.
We should expect a solid, tournament winning performance in Kiev before the inevitable disappointment at TI.
